Organizations Urge Swift Senate Confirmation of FERC Nominees to Ensure Energy Reliability and Affordability

May 3, 2024

Washington, D.C. - A coalition of organizations representing diverse interests in energy reliability and affordability issues today called on the Senate to promptly confirm the three Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) nominees put forward by President Biden on February 29, 2024. The nominees—Judy W. Chang, David Rosner, and Lindsay S. See—have garnered widespread support for their commitment to addressing the pressing challenges facing America's energy infrastructure.

In a letter addressed to Majority Leader Schumer and Minority Leader McConnell, the undersigned organizations emphasized the critical role FERC plays in ensuring that all Americans have access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy. The confirmation of these nominees, who have pledged to prioritize energy reliability and affordability, is essential to maintaining FERC's ability to act on vital infrastructure projects.

"The Commission's actions have a profound impact on disadvantaged communities, who often bear the brunt of power outages and high energy costs. Confirming these nominees is imperative to fulfilling FERC's mandate and serving the needs of all Americans," stated AABE President Ralph Cleveland.

With FERC currently at risk of losing a quorum and one Commissioner's term set to expire on June 30, 2024, the Senate's swift confirmation of President Biden's nominees is paramount to ensuring the Commission's continued effectiveness in the years ahead.

The undersigned organizations are unified in their call, urging the Senate to swiftly confirm Judy W. Chang, David Rosner, and Lindsay S. See as FERC Commissioners. Their expertise and dedication render them highly qualified to propel FERC's critical mission forward. Their confirmation is imperative to ensure a fully operational Commission for the benefit of all Americans.
