AABThe New Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) hosts local high school students to discuss energy education and careers during Black History Month

The keynote speaker for the event will be Richard Constable III, Esq. – Acting Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, and former Deputy Commissioner – New Jersey Department of Labor.  A resident of Orange, Acting Commissioner Constable has expressed his excitement about sharing his unique perspective with the participating students.  Also invited to participate are Mr. Ralph Izzo – Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of PSEG, and Ms. Arnetta McRae – National President and CEO of AABE, and former Chair of the Delaware Public Utility Commission.

Over 40 junior and senior students will participate in the event, and will have the opportunity to engage with AABE Members and other industry professionals in one-on-one discussions as part of the event program.  A special segment of the program will be dedicated to information about college, and how students can participate in the AABE Scholarship opportunities.  Annually, the AABE awards over 100 different scholarships nationally, and raises more that $500,000 to support studies in the STEM disciplines. “The New Jersey Chapter of AABE has made a commitment to stay engaged with local high schools and provide opportunities to enrich the educational experiences of our young people,” said Derek Haley – President of the New Jersey Chapter.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is a national association of energy professionals, founded and dedicated to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities into the discussions and developments of energy policies, regulations, R&D technologies, and environmental issues.  Other purposes of AABE is to encourage both the public and private sectors to be responsive to the problems, goals and aspirations of African Americans in energy-related fields; to encourage African American students to pursue careers in energy-related fields, and to provide scholarships and other financial aid for such students.
