Progress Energy Florida recognized for its commitment to diversity

Progress Energy Florida has been recognized for its commitment to diversity.Company executives recently accepted the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Chapter of American Association of Blacks in Energy.

The annual award recognizes individuals or organizations for their championship of the Florida chapter. Jeff Lyash, CEO and president of Progress Energy Florida, and Michael Lewis, senior vice president of Energy Delivery Florida, are chapter members, along with a number of employees. Progress Energy has made grants in support of chapter activities, college scholarships from the chapter, and the 2009 AABE National Conference, which the chapter is hosting April 14-17 in Orlando.
 
"Our philosophy, 'Together We Shine,' is the foundation for our commitment to make the company an inclusive working environment," Lyash said. "Our focus on embracing and improving diversity is more than just talk. Progress Energy Florida's continued support of the American Association of Blacks in Energy is one of the ways the company is committed to creating a culture of respect and inclusion."
 
The AABE is a national association of energy professionals founded and dedicated to ensure participation of blacks and other minorities in discussions and developments of energy policies, regulations, research and development technologies and environmental issues.
