Huguenot High School National Honor Society and National Beta Club Induction Ceremony

April 30, 2013

Jerome Myers, Project Engineering Manager at CH2M HILL and AABE Virginia Chapter secretary, gave the keynote address to the students of Huguenot High School, on April 30th, 2013.  Jerome is a Professional Engineer who graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, said “I was humbled by the opportunity to share my thoughts around character, determination, leadership and academics.  I hope the ideas I shared will help propel some of those young people to the next level as they pursue their destiny.”

The crowd of over 200 attendees included students, faculty, and parents.  Jerome’s speech was a little over 20 minutes and connected with the audience on a personal level as he shared stories about his life, used metaphors to simplify complex concepts, and challenged the students to be uncomfortable being comfortable.   One of the highlights of the speech was the metaphor Jerome used to liken the process of success to diamond creation.  This was a highlight because Prinicpal Barakat shared in his closing remarks that he had a dream the night before about a diamond bracelet that he had as a teen that he decided to keep.  His decision to keep the bracelet was a foreshadowing of his role as keeper of the “diamonds in process” at Huguenot High School.
