Biography
The South Carolina Chapter of AABE’s Josie K. Claiborne Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to continuing the legacy of Ms. Josie Knowlin Claiborne, Esquire—a founding member of the chapter. She was the chapter’s first president and was an ever-present source of support to the chapter until her death in March 2004. She was also a member of AABE’s National Board of Directors for a number of years. She was a graduate of
Duke University and received the Jurist Doctorate Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her career she served as General Counsel for the Columbia Urban League, a Senior Attorney for SCANA Corporation and a Loaned Executive to the Edison Electric Institute in Washington, D.C. A purveyor of encouragement and positive change, she encouraged friends, professional associates and her children to excel.
