On behalf of the Virginia Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE), I welcome you to our Chapter website. The Chapter was established in 2011 to serve as a resource for policy discussions in the energy industry, including utilities, trade associations, agencies, universities, consulting firms, and entrepreneurs.  AABE is an inclusive organization, welcoming and encouraging all to join

AABE VA 2019 Scholarship Reception  - June 6
 Virginia Chapter awarded 13 scholarships totaling over $49,000!

2019 Goals


  • 85% or more membership renewal
  • Increase total membership to 140 members
  • Recruit 30 new members


  • Raise $35,000 for scholarships for high school seniors entering Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field

Grants & Foundations

  • Raise $25,000 through corporate or business sponsorships


  • Award  $49,000 in scholarships to 13 high school seniors entering  Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) field
  • Previous scholarship recipients in good standing will receive a $500 stipend at the beginning of their sophomore year.


  • Four (4) general body meetings
  • Four (4) community service activities
  • Four (4) professional development opportunities
  • Two (2) networking events
  • Two (2) industry field trips
  • Two (2) Black Energy Awareness Month (BEAM) events in October
  • Three (3) collaboration/partnerships with other ogranizations and/or employee resource groups
  • One (1) member interest meeting at Dominion Energy (Norfolk, VA)
  • One (1) member interest meeting at Dominion Energy (NOVA)
  • One (1) member interest meeting at NiSource (Richmond, VA)
