Members of the Mississippi chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy were hard at work at the Renewable Energy Day. The event is held at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum on Lakeland Drive.
The event is in celebration of October Energy Awareness Month and coordinated by the Mississippi Development Authority. Entergy has been one of the major sponsors since the event started several years ago.
The event is free to public and private students, and is referred to as an outdoor classroom designed to encourage scientific literacy and energy education.
Louis Wright, Entergy Mississippi customer service manager; Patricia Rucker, Entergy Mississippi customer service manager; Napoleon Johnson, , Entergy Mississippi vice president, customer operations; and Jean Jacobs, Entergy Mississippi customer service manager supported the event as part of the outreach efforts for AABE.
AABE members shared information energy with hundreds of students and encourage the students to pursue careers in energy-related fields. AABE members also provided information on scholarships and other financial aid for students.
AABE is a national association of energy professionals ensuring the input of African Americans and other minorities in discussions and developments of energy policies regulations, R&D technologies and environmental issues. AABE is a nationally recognized force in energy policymaking. The organization supports the education of future professionals by offering college scholarships to students pursuing degrees in science and mathematics. The Mississippi chapter of AABE was founded in 1990.
