Dear Friends,

The South Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (SCCAABE) has launched its 2011 fundraising initiative.

The Annual Josie K. Claiborne Memorial Scholarship Fund, named in memory of a founding member and the first president of SCCAABE, provides scholarships to minority students in South Carolina pursuing degrees in business, engineering, mathematics and science fields.  We believe that by giving financial support, we demonstrate our commitment to addressing the critical need for minorities in energy-related fields.

You have five opportunities to provide support for the scholarship fund:

  1. Become a tournament sponsor (Several sponsorship levels are available)
  2. Participate in the tournament (Individual or team slots are available)
  3. Donate prize(s) for tournament participants
  4. Purchase advertisement in the Awards Luncheon Program Booklet
  5. Make a donation or pledge

Please review the attached Sponsorship Levels and select the option appropriate for you.  We are counting on you to return your sponsorship by April 30, 2011.  A representative from our organization will be contacting you soon to discuss your selection and answer any questions you may have.

For additional information, please contact me at (803) 466-4721 or e-mail me at rmarshall@scana.com.

Sincerely,

Ronita Marshall

Message From the President

How do you ensure the greatest return on your investment during these economically distressed times?   The answer is simple:  Invest in the education of our youth.

It is vital that we increase opportunities of pursuing a college education to students who aspire to achieve one.  Education is key to preparing youth to actively participate and enrich our society.

Our goal for 2011 is a $25,000 Scholarship Award.  It’s ambitious – but possible with your help.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is a dynamic organization whose mission is to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities in the development of energy policy and regulation, research and development technology, and environmental standards.

The South Carolina Chapter of AABE seeks to achieve the mission of the national organization through the following goals:

  1. Educate and involve our members and the community on energy issues
  2. Provide the following types of value added programs to our members and the community:
    • Professional Development
    • Mentoring/Networking
    • Community Service Projects
  3. Encourage African American students to pursue careers in math and science fields through scholarships and mentoring

These goals provide our membership and the community with tangible benefits that will enhance their knowledge of the energy industry, provide professional and leadership development opportunities, and support the education of our youth.

On the next few pages, I would like to introduce you to some of our scholarship recipients.  They are representative of the talent of our South Carolina youths – many who will become our future leaders.  SCCAABE is very proud to contribute toward that end.  We must ensure that the bright lights of their future are not smothered by the current economy, coupled with the rising cost of a college education.  Want you help us with this endeavor?  Your contributions will help educate South Carolina Students!

Remember if you’re not a part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.  Let’s be proactive rather than active.  Thanks for your support!
