On Thursday, February 2, 2012, the Mentoring/Tutoring Committee of the Richmond Public Schools' Career and Technical Education Advisory Council is sponsoring a Job Shadowing Day in conjunction with National Job Shadowing Day.  Dominion is pleased to once again participate with the Richmond Public School System and offer job shadowing opportunities to 25 eighth grade students.  As a volunteer for this event, one or more students will have the opportunity to “shadow” you while performing everyday activities followed by lunch.  The time of the event is scheduled from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm (Information you can share as a volunteer and possible activities are attached). Please note that volunteers are asked to take their student to lunch since the students will not have time to eat when they return to school.  This is an exciting community service event that will benefit the students, Dominion, and the volunteers.

Benefits for Students

  • Provides an up-close look at the workplace and various careers
  • Identify skills, competencies, and behaviors needed to be successful in the workplace
  • Better understanding of soft people skills necessary to work effectively
  • Relate what they are learning in the classroom with a career

Benefits for Dominion

  • Builds the community partnership between Dominion and Richmond Public Schools
  • Informs students about careers at Dominion
  • Prepares our future work force
  • Strengthens and promotes Dominion’s involvement in education

Benefits for Volunteers

  • Introduce the world of work to a young person in just a few short hours
  • Showcases the volunteer's skills and education
