AABE’s 2024 Energy Policy Symposium to Highlight Decarbonization, Carbon Market Analysis and Equity

Washington, D.C. — The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) proudly announces its 2024 Energy Policy Symposium, to be held December 3–4, 2024 in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme, “Let’s Talk About Carbon,” will focus on the challenges and opportunities of carbon markets and management, particularly their implications for Black communities across the United States and globally.

This year’s Symposium would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Duke Energy leads as the exclusive Platinum Sponsor, Berkshire Hathaway Energy is the exclusive Advocacy Day Sponsor, and Entergy Corporation proudly hosts the 2024 Secretary Hazel O’Leary Reception.

The Symposium will feature an esteemed lineup of speakers, including prominent elected and appointed officials:

  • Liane Randolph, Chair, California Air Resources Board (CARB)
  • Representative Yvette D. Clarke(D-NY)
  • Senator Tammy Duckworth(D-IL)
  • Representative Scott Peters(D-CA)
  • Representative Garret Graves(R-LA)

AABE President and CEO Ralph Cleveland emphasized the significance of the discussions, stating:

"Decarbonization is of environmental as well as a national security imperative. It is essential that we address climate change while ensuring that the policies we create enhance affordability, and are equitable for all communities, particularly those that have been historically underrepresented in these conversations."

The two-day event will feature high-impact panels, strategic dialogues, and collaborative policy discussions on the future of carbon markets, environmental justice, and the role of Black communities in shaping a sustainable energy future.

We have a roster of over 50 speakers who can be viewed at the official event page. Join AABE as we lead critical conversations to ensure that the transition to a low-carbon future is inclusive, equitable, and impactful for all.
