Public Policy Update – Virginia General Assembly

April 25, 2012

Members of the Virginia Chapter of AABE attended an update meeting by Dominion’s Corporate Public Policy Department on April 25, 2012 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the auditorium of One James River Plaza in Richmond, Virginia.  Bill Murray, Managing Director – Public Policy discussed the 2012 Virginia General Assembly and the legislative challenges Virginia faced in the session.

The legislative process is very important for the energy industry and the Virginia General Assembly is an important component of that process in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Actions taken by the Assembly can set the tone for job growth, innovation, economic development and energy independence in the year ahead and in some instances for many years to come.

State legislative activities include issues involving utility regulation, tax law, environmental policy, renewable energy and energy efficiency standards, and utility infrastructure, including regional transmission operators (RTOs).
