March 3, 2015
ATLANTA – March 3, 2015 – Metro Atlanta high school students are now eligible to apply for scholarship grants offered by the Atlanta chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy® (AABE®). Award consideration will be given to students who plan to major in business and/or the STEM disciples and whose educational pursuits will lead to a career in the energy industry. All applications must be received or postmarked by March 27, 2015.
Additionally, students who were previously awarded scholarships from the AABE Atlanta Chapter will be able to apply for the Continuing Education Scholarship, which offers previous award recipients additional financial support to continue pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in energy-industry related fields at an accredited college or university.
All students who are interested in applying can visit AABE ATLANTA to download the application or contact Valerie Searcy at vdsearcy@southernco.com.
Last year, AABE Atlanta awarded 38 metro Atlanta students with scholarships to further their education.  Students who excelled in math, science and physical science were presented with awards totaling more than $35,000.
With more than 130 members from 30 utilities, distributors, infrastructure providers, and other energy-related companies, the Atlanta Chapter is one of 10 AABE chapters in the Southeast region. AABE is a national association of energy professionals founded and dedicated to ensure the input of African Americans and other minorities into the discussions and developments of energy policies, regulations, research and development technologies, and environmental issues.
