AABE Atlanta to Contribute to James K. Davis Scholarship Fund with Annual Golf Fundraiser

September 15, 2016

In 2017, eligible high school seniors who apply for the AABE Atlanta James K. Davis Scholarship will receive awards from monies raised at the 2016 14th Annual James K. Davis Scholarship Golf Tournament. Since 1994, the tournament, hosted by the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) Atlanta Chapter, has been the source of approximately $557,000 in scholarships given to metro-Atlanta students pursing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

“AABE Atlanta has a rich history of supporting and encouraging students to major in areas that will directly enhance the energy industry,” said Willie Palmer, president of AABE Atlanta Chapter. “The James K. Davis Golf Tournament brings the public and private sectors together to raise money for deserving students, and we are grateful that we continue to grow participation in this event each year.”

The tournament is named for AABE Atlanta founder, James (Jim) K. Davis, who brought together energy companies in the industry to give a voice to minorities concerning energy policies. Davis was senior vice president of Employee & Corporate Relations for Georgia Power Company and was dedicated to service and financially supporting the chapter.

With the help of Flat Creek Golf & Country Club and AABE Atlanta volunteers, more than 200 participants are hosted for a day of golf and fellowship. This year’s tournament will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, at Flat Creek Golf & Country Club, located at 100 Flat Creek Road in Peachtree City, Ga.All are welcome for registration and the 9 a.m. shotgun start.
