Atlanta Chapter Member Appointed to Georgia Governor’s Workforce Investment Board
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal recently appointed Wendell Dallas, an AABE Atlanta member and Atlanta Gas Light executive, to serve as chairman of the State Workforce Investment Board.
Dallas is vice president of operations at Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas and will chair the Board, which oversees state workforce development initiatives.
Dallas, of Snellville, Georgia, is also chairman of the board at Gwinnett Technical College and serves on the boards of the Center for Energy Workforce Development and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. He has been an active and supportive member of the Atlanta Chapter of AABE for many years.
Gulf Coast Member receives prestigious PACE Award
Bentina Terry, Gulf Power’s vice president of external affairs and corporate services, was selected as the Community Leader of the Year at the 53rd annual Pensacola Area Commitment to Excellence awards ceremony.
The PACE awards, presented by the Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, are given each year to individuals in several categories.
Terry was honored for co-chairing the chamber’s successful Vision 2015 fundraising campaign that raised $8.5 million. She also was recognized for her work with the Community Maritime Park board, efforts to foster Innovation Coast, an alliance of high-tech firms within the Florida Panhandle, as well as several other state and local community and economic development efforts.
The group will be responsible for distributing millions of dollars in anticipated BP oil spill fine money that will be used to help create jobs, provide new tools for community resilience and fight poverty.
Gulf Coast Member promoted to Region Manager
Daryl Brown has been selected as Georgia Power Company's Region Manager for Metro South Region. In this position, Daryl will oversee region operations and have responsibility for customer service, sales, community and economic development and governmental relations.
Daryl graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. In the community, he has served on numerous boards, including the Better Business Bureau for the state of Mississippi, National Minority Supplier Diversity Council, Mississippi Audubon Society, Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Jackson/George United Way and Habitat for Humanity. He served as a major for the U.S. Army Reserve from 1987 to 2007.
Gulf Coast Member promoted to Manager of Contracts and Vendor Management
Cedrick Hurd was selected as the new manager of Contracts and Vendor Management, in EPSS for Southern Company.
Currently serving as a Contracts Agent in Supply Chain for Mississippi Power, Cedrick has a background in Supply Chain, Accounting, and IT that gives him a great foundation to be successful in the position. Cedrick joined Southern Company in 2004.
Cedrick is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University where he received a Master of Science degree in Information Systems, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Accounting and Management Information Systems.

Annually KCP&L's Employee Resource Group for women recognizes a female employee whose business or community leadership, acumen or innovation has inspired and motivated others and directly benefited customers, communities or industry.
Candidates are evaluated on their personal integrity, leadership ability, dedication and/or perseverance and the impact of their contribution in the KCP&L community, their profession or field.
Remona is a member of the KS-MO chapter and chairs the Career Development Committee.
On March 21, Wilton Cedeno represented AABE by participating on a panel at the first Transportation Diversity Council Annual Conference hosted at the New York Academy of Medicine Conference Center. The following topics were covered:
New Jersey Member runs for a great cause
Ian Coelho, AABE NJ Chapter Membership Chairperson and PSE&G health and safety coordinator-Palisades electric distribution, recently ran the New York City Half Marathon as the PSEG representative helping to raise money in support of Children’s Specialized Hospital.
“This was an opportunity to continue my efforts in supporting the hospital as I’ve done for a few years now and improve my overall health at the same time,” said Coelho. “I’m really excited about the race and I’m looking forward to getting to the finish line.”

Chapters on the Move
Delegates from several Southern African countries recently visited Georgia Power headquarters on a best practices and fact-finding mission for Energy Trading.
The delegates were from member countries of the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) representing: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland.
Founded in 1995, SAPP is a cooperation of the national electricity companies of the countries listed above. The agency does business under the auspices of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the member companies have created common power grid between their countries and a common market for electricity in the SADC region.
The delegates specifically wanted to examine the standards and trends in the United States for developing an Energy Trading model and Balancing Ancillary services market. SAPP is hoping to develop something similar in their region.
Professor Shi-Jie Deng, Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology, gave a presentation on energy pricing and hedging in competitive power markets. The group also visited Southern Company’s Energy Trading Floor in Birmingham, Alabama.
Atlanta Chapter member Carlton Blue and Marjorie Jean-Pierre from the U.S. Energy Association coordinated the visit. Blue, along with Walter Dukes, Georgia Power SVP, and other Atlanta Chapter members, hosted the delegation for the energy program and networking reception.
